INTERVIEW: with THE BLUEBOOK PROJECT.

Bedford Alternative Music interviews The Bluebook Project. September 2015.

When did the band start and how did you come by the name of the band?

The first thoughts of setting up a band came about on a drunken train journey but it didnt really come to life until the end of 2013. We came by the name after looking into "Project Blue Book", which was a study into UFO's by the US Airforce.

Where was your first live gig and how did that go?

We played a few open mic nights in the local area to get used to playing in front of a crowd, once we beat the nerves our first proper gig was in Danny's Bar which went really well.....

Do you all contribute to the song writing?

One or two of us we'll bring in a song and show the others, and if we all like it we'll then jam on it, work out arrangements and get it tight enough for gigging.

What does the band draw the songs influences from and what are they about?

Most of our songs stem from personal experiences or feelings which usually revolve around boredom and frustration...the usual angst of being young.

How would you describe the band’s sound?

Our sound has been described as heavy rock'n'roll, we aim for catchy pop melodies yet lace our sound with scuzzy guitars and vocals to try and get that balance between radio friendly yet remaining raw.

What other bands and musical influences do the band members have?

We've taken influences from many different genres but the main bands we look to are the likes of Oasis, The Ramones and White Stripes.

What do band members do outside the band – any interests or hobby’s?

We all have different interests and hobbies outside the band from football to photography but music is always our number one interest, everything from writing songs, to discovering new music and going to gigs, its what we enjoy the most.

What do you think of the music scene in Bedford at present and how would you say it compares to other places?

There's lots of decent up-and-coming bands in the area, so there's a good music scene. More people are also starting to go out and see live music again, so it should get even better.

Any favourite, least favourite, or funny gig/tour story moments?

Our least favourite yet funny gig was in London. Anything that could of gone wrong...did. From getting shocks off the mic, to the amp blowing up, having to cut the set in half and then finally knocking the mic stand off the stage wiping out our beers.

Have the band got anything coming up to look forward to?

Our new EP 'Take Me Away' has just been released on iTunes, Spotify etc. And to help promote the release, we are currently in the process of booking a tour for the end of the year.
