Bowfinger.
Lev 1 Esquires Bedford. 5th June 2005.
First a confession - I arrived a bit late and missed a chunk of the first acoustic set, which was a real shame as BOWFINGER are a great band and I was looking forward to their experiment to see how some of their material would be received when stripped down to the bare bones. The songs I did hear were excellent, sounding both extremely strong and punchy.
It was also a treat for the audience when Jess, the singer from 'Stranger', turned up and played a few of her own songs. She got a very warm reception and performed with her usual confidence.
Bowfinger then strapped on their electric guitars and turned up their amps for their 'rockier' set and their brand of quirky indie-pop went down a treat. It was also great to see a lot of new faces alongside some of the Sunday afternoon Esquires regulars.
Unfortunately, the gig marked the end of the Winter / Spring season of live music on Sunday afternoons. The bar will still open as usual and the bands start up again on the 28th August 2005 when 'Cutting Out' kick off the next season.
I would like to thank everyone for their support this year. Special thanks must go to Vinnie, Rob, Keith and Tony Morton for their constant encouragement. I look forward to putting details of next seasons bands on-line shortly, but I really pleased with how the line-up is coming together!
