The Corsairs, Henry and the Bleeders, The Dilinquents.
Bedford Esquires Lev 2 17th March 2007.
I really wasn't supposed to be reviewing this, but a certain Mr. Stapleton is jigging about like a leprechaun and giggling like a girl. And wearing one of those silly hats so he probably can't see anyway. Review by Karen Jones. www.bedfordesquires.co.uk
Right, the first band on tonight were The Dilenquents (sic). It's nice to see young Richard back from University again. They rattle through the usual numbers with Jason (owner of probably the strangest haircut in Bedford) on shouting duties and get the crowd nicely warmed up for the rest of the evening.
HENRY AND THE BLEEDERS are the second band on. We have watched this lot grow up from a bunch of underage lads having a bit of a laugh, to a (dare I use the word?) professional looking outfit. They are setting foot outside Danny's Bar and gaining new fans wherever they go. I'm not personally convinced by the saxophone - it sounded ok without it but the crowd certainly seem to enjoy it and all I can see is a mass of flailing limbs.
The last band on were THE CORSAIRS. Most easily summed up as a covers band with a double bass. They did the expected punk covers (SLF, Sham 69, Undertones) and a couple of unexpected ones (Kaiser Chiefs anyone?). Harmless enough, but a bit of an anti-climax after the first two bands. I asked a bigger boy afterwards, and he told me that they do write their own material, but the covers are more popular. Well not tonight they're not - the young.
