Lev 2 Esquires Bedford. 25th March 2005.

“Who bought a red nose for Comic Relief then? This one’s for you. It’s called ‘I Love Famine’”. And so, like fat girls in mini-skirts, too-tight tops and out-of-fashion shoes by New Look, another of Bedford’s greatest gifts to human culture, THE TENDONS, emerge once again to brighten up our otherwise dull weekend.

A great mixed bag of support precedes them from DRAWING OF THE FOUR, with their eye for melodic punk-inspired noisecore, the fantastic sing-a-long skinhead anthems of Overload, and the truly talented DUN 2 DEF, who just exude a true love and understanding of the ska / punk scene.

Then come THE TENDONS. Suddenly it stops being a gig and turns into a drunken orgy of depravity. As usual! But tonight, amidst classics like ‘Dettol Dick’, ‘Trendy Wanker’ and ‘Roger Bring Back My Legs’, we are also treated to tracks from their forthcoming album such as ‘Fishy Fanny’, ‘Matt the Twat’ and a brand new song, which I think really highlights the underrated yet diverse lyrical influences of The Tendons – a sensuous tale of passion eternal if ever I’ve heard one - touchingly entitled ‘Fuck Her to Death’.

Completing the Easter obscenities are special guest appearances from punk icons Paul Gobby and Johnny Simms; the frontman of goth legends Robed in Desire making his first appearance on a stage in eight years; Dun 2 Def’s singer back with his bag of crisps, and last but not least, a drunken hippy found stumbling around at the front. A Tendons gig wouldn’t be the same without one!

The set ends with crowd favourites ‘I Like Beating Heads’ and ‘Evil’, and, once again, the four deviant party boys have given us more than our fill of schoolgirl teasers, pub slags, hairy areas and maybe even hoofed creatures from Unilever.

Another Good Friday!
