Fell Silent, Deserves To Die, Ska-Red, Seethe.
Lev 2 Esquires Bedford. 3rd June 2005.
Tonight we see the first part of a double headed metal weekend - four bands tonight, three bands tomorrow, all hard unrelenting, eleven out of ten full blooded metal. For this we have to thank Bedfordmetal.tk and the enthusiasm and hard work of Esquires stalwart Paul Craven.
The first band of the night were SEETHE - a four piece from Milton Keynes (which may explain why they are so angry). It was a superb start from the young band who can boast a terrific front man who seems to strain every sinew in his body in projecting the full intensity of each song. 'Suffering of the Innocent' and 'Rain in Blood' stood out for me.
Following on from Seethe, the volume increases even more with a band from Northampton called SCAR-RED. Although this is their second visit to Bedford, it is the first time they have played Esquires, and they have grown up enormously since I first saw them some 18 months ago. Their lyrics are dark and menacing, such as 'Bow down on your knees, my voice will be heard, I'll spit my f***ing blood, I will never follow you'. An awesome set.
All the way from Rotherham in Yorkshire are 'DESERVES TO DIE', who feature a female bass player who demonstrates she can rock as hard as the boys! 'Twist the Knife' and 'Irony' suggest that this band could go a long way.
The last band of the night need no introduction to Esquires regulars as they have played here a number of times and were recent finalists in the Battle of the Bands Competition. 'FELL SILENT' have gained in confidence recently and this shows in their ability to deliver a great set to a hugely appreciative audience.
Thanks to all four bands for a great evening.
