Glitterati, Easykill, Scratchplate.
Lev 2 Esquires Bedford. 8th October 2005.
A good sized crowd were truly entertained by three rocking bands.
Young metallers SCRATCHPLATE continue to make progress and are fast becoming favourites of mine. Their own composition 'Love Struck Rock 'n' Roll', was followed by a cover of The Faces Seventies 'Stay With Me' (which the lads announced with 'This is one for the older members of the audience'!), and the lads did it proud. I am sure Rod Stewart would have approved.
Cornwall is very close to my heart and so the appearance of St Agnes based band EASYKILL was of particular interest and I was not disappointed. The lads, all nineteen years of age, showed plenty of confidence and maturity. Opening with 'Wake Up Call', they proceed to rock the venue with their track 'Burn' befoe blowing us all away with the aptly titled 'Blow'!
THE GLITTERATI were making their second appearance at Esquires, having previously played here in July 2004. Since then they have recorded their debut eponymous album, tracks from which were performed tonight. I have to say that The Glitterati are a whole lot better live than on disc. They blizt thorugh opener 'Betterman', then slow the set down with 'Keep Me Up All Night', before cranking it up again with 'Do You Love Yourself?'. 'Heartbreaker' closes proceedings as the band walk off to refuel on Jack Daniels!
A word of complaint though. I know I wasn't the only person present to think that The Glitterati's choice of music to enter the stage to was inappropriate and distasteful.
