Kill Keneda, Garrett, The Walk Off, The Nectar International.
Lev 2 Esquires Bedford. 22nd September 2005.
A small but enthusiastic crowd gave great support to a night of what I can only describe as Indie-Garage Rock.
First band appearing tonight are THE NECTAR INTERNATIONAL who, new to the venue, put together a tight and interesting set.
THE WALK OFF followed, comprising a surreal conglomeration of the baggy Madchester sound of The Happy Mondays spliced with the camp disco of The Village People! This half hour set was simply cheesy hardcode mature cheddar! The songs were, as it happens, very good as opener 'Pornographer' blended into 'Vader Fader' and 'Disco Army' pulsated into the hearts and minds of the crowd. However, I have yet to mention the Bear! Dancing on stage!! Yes, Esquires was treated to the sight of a band playing with a six foot bear doing his best Bez impression.
GARRETT brought a bit of sanity to the proceedings as they plied their good solid sound. Their regular visits to our venue are always a delight to watch and listen to.
Headlining tonight are KILL KENEDA, a raucously tuneful lo-fi art punk scuzz rock band. A three piece based in Bognor Regis they have received praise from highly respected Radio 1 DJ / MTV2 presenter Zane Lowe. Influenced by such diverse acts as Culture Club, System of a Down and The Mars Volta, you can imagine the eclectic sounds Kill Keneda produce. The boys, colourfully known as Lord Edge (Drums), Danny T-Bone Steak (guitar) and K Screams-a-lot (Vocals and Bass), impressed everyone with a seven song set with 'Up Yr Throat' grabbing our attention through into 'Is This The Same Song?' before a final blade of glory entitled 'Scraps!'

All in all a satisfyingly strange evening but when you come to Level 2 what else do you expect? Perhaps not a dancing bear though!
