New Groove Formation, Fallout Theory, Motionview Emergency.
Lev 2 Esquires Bedford. 14th October 2005.
Tonight's proceedings were opened by MOTIONVIEW EMERGENCY a four piece group originating from Hartlepool. Playing a set of sometimes jazzy hardcore, they performed with lots of passion, energy but above all fun! Lead singer Peter Cowens interacted with the audience superbly, his north-east wit was very dry and amusing. The band are currently on tour playing with various bands in the hope of securing a deal with a major label. A demo of two of their songs - 'So Here's Your War' and 'This is Progress' (which tonight concluded the set) were on sale and it is very rare to see band travelling this far to play our venue and it was much appreciated. I wish them all the best for the future!
Another band with 'theory' in their name (see the review of the previous night!), THE FALLOUT THEORY have influences ranging from Taking Back Sunday to Bon Jovi. This young four piece Worcestershire band have a singing drummer and are tight, playing a set of past paced American punk which gave the initially dubious crowd a chance to seriously party. The Fallout Theory currently have a clothing sponsor with the curious name of 'Jail Clothing' (although no blue stripy shirts were on display tonight). A good bunch of lads whose enthusiasm shone through.
Headlining tonight are the fantastically brilliant (yes, I am a big fan!) NEW GROOVE FORMATION with their skanking ska, reggae, jazz, soul, bluesy, rock sound. Their list of songs 'Serious', 'Always', 'Girl' and 'Once in a While' just stick in your subconscious, so your head starts nodding before travelling down to your legs and your feet as the tunes ignite all your muscles into a synchronized rhythmic movement. As the boys leave the stage they are cajoled by the crowd into playing 'just one more tune' and what follows is a simply divine cover of the classic 'Police and Thieves'. We go home extremely happy and content.
Oh, and they even have a didgeridoo player amongst the crew!
