Way back in the eighties it was thought highly fashionable (for some unknown reason) to have a 'double' name - you know, Talk Talk, The The and of course Duran Duran. Tonight those days are back as DIVE DIVE headline this Saturday night gig.

A four piece from Oxford comprising of Jamie (guitar/vocals), Tarrant (bass), Nigel (drums) and Ben (guitar). Although I was not keen on the band name, their songs and sound was in the main quite gripping. Dive Dive's front man was suffering from a bout of flu but he bravely fought on, telling the Bedfordians present if his voice gave way entirely their next gig was only in Cambridge! (Nice one Jamie, I like your style).

This was Dive Dive's second appearance in Bedford - previously they had played at a working man's club in town which they admitted was a slightly embarrassing situation. Dive Dive basically deal in guitar based pop and the pace barely slackens from the opener 'The Game' through to 'Throw Me Off the Plane' and the sound that they create is that of a band who play with a calm artistry - accomplished but not yet perfected. Their final song 'Crock' is a fuzzed up instrumental that is eagerly devoured by a small but devoted audience. An interesting set by a band full of tuneful integrity that are capable of enriching any evening. Support comes from old favourites LOVEBURGER who once again can do no wrong as they continue to use their time on stage to highlight their undoubted skill and potential.

RUN LIKE FUN opened this Hairgel evening and the Milton Keynes four piece pop punk band play a set that although for me is not radical enough, they are extremely keen and do not waste their alloted time on stage and that always deserves our appreciation and credit. Their song 'China' is a definite highlight from tonight's set.
