Right Turn Clyde, The Perfect Crime.

Bedford Esquires Lev 1. 15th February 2007.

Although tonight's showcase evening saw a couple of very late withdrawals, the two remaining bands on show definitely delivered the goods to a predominantly young and enthusiastic crowd. Both Right Turn Clyde and The Perfect Crime were making return visits, although Right Turn Clyde have not appeared since October 2002. With a gig upstairs on Level 2, the venue became a mini Rock City for the evening!

THE PERFECT CRIME took to the mic first with a sound heavily influenced by The Deftones. As per usual they exerted loads of energy and after opener 'Scenery', the band joke with us that in the future they are going to perform all their songs in a lounge rock style, renaming the band Perfect The Crime. I'm not too sure whether they are serious or not!!
With skull and crossbones adorning the bands' T-shirts, it's a trait copied by a couple of their fanclub who click away on their mobiles! Appropriately 'Cupid's Nightmare' is possibly a Valentine made in hell, while a couple of The Perfect Crimes older songs, most notably 'Shaped like Misfortune' add up to a fine finale!

So on to our old friends RTC. 'Come out fighting' blueprints the set. It's overtly fast and loud and carries very much an Alkaline Trio sound with the band all clad in matching black clothing. They are at present getting back to basics ie: giggin' a-plenty and recording an album, which according to the lads is due out in the summer (hopefully!). By their own admission this Cambridge three-piece have been a little lazy in the past!
'Drinking about you' is a painful song for vocalist Jazz as he hasn't touched a drop of alcohol for all of two weeks! He dedicates it to himself while handing over the bands' communal pint of water to bassist Marc! Final song 'Happy Accidents' brings it all to a close, earning a well deserved round of applause, and hopefully a much sooner return visit on Level 2 in the future!
