White Rose Movement, Drawing of the Four, Reverie.
Lev 2 Esquires Bedford. 19th August 2005.
As that mischievous Manc Mr Noel Gallagher recently stated 'This is the best time in music for years' and certainly at Esquires we have recently enjoyed a bumper crop of excellent up and coming groups.
Although the attendance tonight was not brilliant, everyone had a great time dancing and enjoying the music of the headline act 'WHITE ROSE MOVEMENT'. They certainly offered something different - imagine a soundclash between Kraftwerk, The Human League and The Subways!
The jewel in their crown is undoubtedly their glorious single 'Love is a Number', which certainly deserves to infiltrate the current boy/girl band mediocrity of the charts and become a massive hit.
Support band DRAWING OF THE FOUR put together a fine and sparky punk inspired set. The songs 'Caught Red Handed' and 'You Won't be Alone' caught my ear, as did a version of 'Blitzkrieg Bop', the original of which was surely recorded long before these boys were even a twinkle in their father's eyes!
Although not advertised to play, a late change gave Luton band REVERIE a chance to shine and, for me, they didn't disappoint. In the two years since they last played here they have experienced a few line up changes and from being a gutsy rock and roll band they now have the feel of a crossover indie-dance act. Stand out tunes were 'On the Fence' and 'Guide Dog' which really captured their new sound.
