Slaves to Gravity, Phonic Rapture, Underdosed.
Bedford Esquires Lev 2. 2nd February 2007.
I wasn't going to do a review tonight, but felt I had to. First band on were UNDERDOSED. Allegedly I've seen them before, but I don't remember! They were OK really - we'll skip the awful covers, but there was a great deal of enthusiasm and they were only small children. I thought there was an unusual vocal style, it wasn't quite in tune, but it didn't really sound out of tune - maybe we don't know all the notes! Review by Karen Jones. www.bedfordesquires.co.uk
So the second band were PHONIC RAPTURE. I'm told that I've seen them before. Probably blanked that out then. Smug is a word that springs to mind. I thought the singer was singing in an American accent which I automatically hate. Oh - and he was being funny (note to band - this generally only works when you are actually funny.) I went off into a fantasy world where they were in a shit horror film and tried to work out who would die first (probably the singer 'cos the drummer was driving the van and the one in the baseball cap would be working at a remote gas station). A Phonic Rupture would probably been more enjoyable.
The last band were SLAVES TO GRAVITY. We all are and it is a good thing. How inconvenient would it be if you had to go to work, but you were stuck by the ceiling like a discarded balloon from a fast food restaurant. It was all slick and professional, but some of the older children never liked Alice in Chains ever ever ever.
In summary: It is a bit overcast and there will be a bit of a chill at night. However, the days remain unseasonably warm and we can be quite optimistic about the coming weeks.
