Ten Year Prospect, Little Black Dresses, Midori.
Lev 2 Esquires Bedford. 28th May 2005.
Tonight's entertainment was provided by three young bands, namely Midori, The Little Black Dresses and The Ten Year Prospect.
For me, the undoubted stars of the evening were the band with the oddest name - 'THE LITTLE BLACK DRESSES'. Displaying a smorgasbord of influences as diverse as The Velvet Underground, Blondie, Kraftwerk, The Cure and The Killers, I thought there was a very early eighties feel to the band. Lead singer Dom was charismatic and I was very impressed with their opening song 'Renee' which Dom sang offstage while the audience saw a monitor screen of him on stage with the rest of the band. Overall the songs came across well, especially 'Back when I was sober'. However, they ended their set on a low note with an ill advised cover of 'Seven Nation Army'.
Opening the nights proceedings were MIDORI, who previously entered the Battle of the Bands competition under the name of Chavius. One can only assume they now wish to be taken seriously.
The headline act tonight were 'THE TEN YEAR PROSPECT', and this was the opening night of their mini-tour. Unfortunately, I thought they relied too much on stage antics and posturing, and I sincerely hope that at their later dates in Camden, Brixton, St. Albans and Nottingham that their music comes across better as they are undoubtedly a very talented band.
