IMICUS

- Turbulent Skies. 2015.

Mixed & mastered by Russ Russell at Parlour studios. Recorded & produced by Al Hutton.

Over the years on Bedford Alternative Music Imicus have provided us with a review copy of their output which has always been consistent in quality. They performed their last live show April this year, going out with a great show and this will be their last C.D.
A Turbulent Sky does indeed feature on their cover inlay and disk, certainly catering to my enjoyment of horror film imagery, the artwork with knarled tree, bats and brooding skies makes a great art cover.

THE LIBERTINE and MEDUSA on the CD also appear on their previous disk reviewed last year, six new tracks are included with MECURIAL lending its Dead man walking theme making this a good track to accompany a zombie film soundtrack, its both a good tune and melodic with a thought out structure as opposed to a face blasting floor hitting runner. The thinking mans metal continues with the title track TURBULENT SKIES, it’s an epic, mostly sung with well sung clean vocals still retaining a turbulent passion. LING CHI goes in to heavier territory with anger infused energy to the vocals, superb soaring guitar riffs and strong, precise drumming. Lyrics on Imicis songs are always an exercise in creative writing and prose without any plot, meaning or story constraints bogging it down THIS EVERLAST is no exception and has the most fantastic to listen to soothing chorus piece. I couldn’t tell you what a lot of their lyrics are directing towards I just know the words cleverly fit the music.
Letting go of a loved one themes EMBERS it’s a screamer accompanied with the professional sound, tune and musicianship that make you always wonder why Imicus were never signed. And so the PENDULAM stops for Imicus being their last track typifying their clean, scream, growling vocal style other bands could find hard to better. Strong, fast tempos and soothingly melodic edges blending perfectly.

So is this the end? They are all good musicians so capable of going further but for their current incarnation their musical pendulum indicates the clock has stopped for this band. Good Luck Miller (singer/song writer), Al (guitar), Matt (guitar), Brad (bass) and Ant (drums).
