Thrash Gordon – I wonder if that’s his real name? He has quite a busy local touring schedule ranging from Bedford, Flitwick, Luton Shefford, the list goes on, a veritable campervanic excursion in to the live playing experience. Here then is his CD in 29 minutes of red or cream, stylised like a groove tracked vinyl record.

The batting opening hits a six in to the pavilion with SIX WEEKS which is a happy stomp of well done folky greatness; a bit like when Led Zep go a bit acoustic (Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp). With its tune, riffs and rockout stringwork it’s quite multi layered with several string sections (guitar/mandolin) and vocals (all his own) coming in all at once together.

TRAIN WRECK is punk colliding off the tracks with folk rock and a very Americanised influence and another stompy track, this time with harmonica blended in.

I seem quite familiar with NOTHING this track I have either heard it live a few times or it’s a leftover from a previous band of his. A short and sweet snack of electro acoustic.

A moody opening to LISTEN with foot tambourine percussion. I quite like this one, its dark moody blues edged with a harmonica inclusion making a sensuous trip. A strange thing to say but I wouldn’t mind learning the lyrics and getting up and singing this with him!

ONE VOICE is rock n roll at its finest, soothing, soaring guitar threads and decent vocals. I have noticed quite an employment of background clapping used throughout these tracks which is inevitably included due to having the non inclusion of drums.

There are some rather good vocals through BABY I LOVE YA and lyrics too “The sun goes down on another perfect day” it’s a great tune, relaxing and leaves you reflecting on the skills of his craft.
My only bugbear being the seemingly lack of a proper ending, just kind of fades off in mid enjoyment.

YOU is a sonorous relaxing crooner to lie back and really enjoy. It’s simply a beautiful song where this musician has sat down and written a clever masterstroke of a tune.

About a woman on your mind all the time and the emotion of obsession raging through when they are gone resonates throughout CINNAMON WHIRL GIRL adding just the right spice to a slice of twice nice vice for the price.

A lonely themed song of fine acoustic ability on LONER with some electric guitar attaching its self onboard also and comes together rather well I thought.

A message on a phone prequels I DON’T MISS YOU , this final coda is a lesser, quieter quality as though the author has decided to leave a song as a phone message to someone and this is it.

Riff Raff Revival is a collection of skilfully written tunes that cheer, entertain and delight the listener. A decent crop of his self written self played songs and when spun on your CD player or heard streamed on-line make for a really pleasant wicket hitter of a listen.
