BEDFORD BANDS IN WAKEFIELD.
Doubting Thomas supported by GFA and Blind Theory.
The Snooty Fox, Wakefield, Thursday 7th
July 2005.
By Liam Burke.
Doubting Thomas travelled to Wakefield for the fifth leg of their UK tour and to
record a live DVD! They took with them a large group of Bedford fans who all
looked as if they had the time of their lives. DT were supported by two other
punk bands the first being Manchester based Punk band GFA.
GFA compared them selves to Dropkick Murphy's and
entertained the crowd with their loud shouting and gingerist sense of humour.
They played several songs which sounded similar but had the crowd joining in
with what seemed to be their catch phrase of "Oi Oi Oi" They were also
giving away free CDs. I Picked up their demo entitled "Watching the World
Burn." And in my opinion they seem to be more of a studio band which did
surprise me! In one of their songs it has a Tony Blair speech in the background!
The pick of their set was properly a song about football hooligans called
"Garry Larger" this surprisingly included the lyrics "Oi Oi Oi"
It has catchy lyrics which encourage audience participation.
Blind Theory
Blind Theory
The next band up was young Bedford punk group "Blind
Theory" This band have played a number of gigs supporting Doubting
Thomas and seemed to be quite comfortable with their set. Their set included a
lot of original material as well as the pick of their show a sort of Blink 182
medley. This consisted of the Blink Classic "Dammit" ended with the
more recent Blink track "Feeling This". "Blind Theory"
Entertained the crowd and had people moshing away! They proved to be a brilliant
band to get the fans ready for the main event "Doubting Thomas"
Doubting Thomas
Doubting Thomas took to the stage with a warm up
using Blind Theory's Drummer Tobi. They played "The Middle" by Jimmy
Eat World which put the crowd in the mood for when mAccA, Buggy and Oli were
joined on stage by new drummer Blair for the recording of a live DVD. DT opened
their set with "Its Not Too Late" which instantly had the travelling
Bedford fans jumping around and generally having a great time. During this set
several entertaining things happened including DT being joined on stage by
"EMO BOY" and the crowd invading the stage. This night proved even
further what a great live band Doubting Thomas are and why they are one of the
most loved and well supported Bedford bands in recent years.
Doubting Thomas
All in all this was a very fun day and these three bands performances made the
nearly four hour journey worth while. I would also like to thank mAccA and DT
for organising the coach to and from Wakefield! Doubting Thomas and Blind Theory
are playing Esquires this Saturday and I suggest anyone that wants to have a
good time and jump about go see these two bands.
