DRAGONFORCE.

with The Renegade Playboys and Enigma.

Friday 08 Oct - The Pitz, Woughton Centre, Milton Keynes.

The ticket price tonight was quite steep for a leisure centre, but I had heard of Dragonforce and that they were a force to be reckoned with.So I and a small posse headed down to the Pitz. The first band were surprisingly talented. Named " Enigma " they played together extremely well and sounded heavy. The singer's range wasn't fantastic but they were sweetly young with their hair in that annoying almost long phase.
They played a good length set and we awaited the next band with anticipation.

The next band had a huge banner entitled " The Renegade Playboys ". They were dressed as if they had just stepped through a time warp from the late 70's. The sound was atrocious, well that's a bit harsh , the band's cohesion was atrocious, they looked and moved about in a very comical fashion, I hope that was intended. After 3 songs I and the Bedford possey could stand no more and returned to the leisure centre bar. Thankfully the main band " Dragonforce " did not disappoint. I donned my new "valley of the Damned" t-shirt (that was reasonably priced) and awaited their arrival. The lights were dimmed and the members took to the stage as if they belonged there. To quote the website "the twin guitar assaults of Herman Li and Sam Totman" were blinding. Their fingers were a blur on the fret boards and the timing - top notch. The vocalist ZP Theart worked the audience well, although he had a tendency to stand exposing his crotch for all to see. He took a childs sword and wielded it like a master. Many of the audience sang along with the chants and fists/arms were raised aplenty. The highlight of the evening for me was Vadim Pruzhanov's amazing half time keyboard/synthesizer solo that left me awestruck. First it was hilarious, then impressive. It was very clear that the band had rehearsed many , many times as the material was so tight. After finally seeing them live I will now purchase both albums. The site www.dragonforce.com contains lots of useful info about the band for people who wish to look into them further.
