The Bedford Metal Thursday Showcase The Bedford Metal Thursday Showcase Plain Blue, The Race Against Silence, Fit To Be Tied.

Dannys Bar, Thursday 6th March 2008.

Not the best of luck follows our man from

PLAIN BLUE featuring the excellent guitar work of Joe Wood whose band pulled out at the last minute leaving Jo on his tod to do the show alone, albeit acoustically, which nevertheless works extremely well at the Danny's Bar venue. After a hectic crowd the week before and a busy mosh pit 'in Danny's Bar' and an amp pushed of its stand in the surge, it has now been decided to fence a barrier between crowd and band (who said Bedford Metal gigs were tame?). No livestock or cattle market this week though but a good acoustic set from the Luton lad himself, quite blues orientated and rocking out in style with his own self written songs coming over quite well.

Next up, a punk infused band with plenty of energy and enthusiasm. - With a few former members from Bridges Burnt.

THE RACE AGAINST SILENCE were considerably more practiced and confident. Some guitarists were quite static while others fed a lot of energy and movement, including the lead singer who added to a stadium style performance at a pub gig, they put everything to the mild punk song offerings, a bit Alkaline Trio but with more oomph! Swinging his mic around and engaging with the audience who gave the best crowd reaction of the evening, the consummate front man gave an entertaining delivery. Their set was tight, well practiced, fun and make me want to wish them all the best and invite more gig experience their way.

Late, tired and not much by way of band practices lately

FIT TO BE TIED headlined with a metal classic sound incorporating a modern edge tinged with death like growls to the twin vocal attack. A band that so impressed me on their first gig and subsequent gigs after, they are doing well with gigs in various local places and are the Bedford Metal New band winners who won a slot on this years river festival. Here though they did seem a tad un prepared and not on top form. Their Dio cover 'Holy Diver' a show stealer as always, with a row of fans up at the barrier appreciating the talents of each member. The set included I was told, songs from their set being performed for the last time before they introduce some new material. The set ended with some fabulous rock n roll bursts which kind of petered out just as you were beginning to enjoy the sound adding a strange fizzled out ending to their show.

Thanks to Pete Burrage and Paul Craven for the excellent sound.
