BCEX Presents: Battle Of The Student Bands 2010.
Civic Theatre Friday 23rd July 2010.

Friday 23rd July 2010 at the esteemed Civic Theatre venue. BCEX presents this years:-
Battle Of The Student Bands
Well done for the definite show of talent from all the bands that played, with a unanimous decision from the judges for the winning band Although I have caught Sunset Reset a few times before and know to expect a good performance, I still took on board that this was not so much of a Battle of the bands, but more of a Battle of the best performance on the night - which Sunset Reset competently achieved. Its good that a band doesnt strictly pigeon hole themselves to a particular style of music, instead adopting a wider audience-appealing sound of cheery, uplifting, extremely well played slice of musical talent.
Its evident that these guys are enjoying them selves on stage, helping to create a strong audience participation and appreciation. Their songs seem to allow each member to shine and have their own moment, including a section for their bassist adopting a fez hat (fezs are cool) and taking the limelight with backing vocals for their Justin Timberlake cover Bring Sexy Back, which if Im honest Sunset Reset do more than justice to and if I may say, do better that the original, making it sparkle more with their own unique verve and entertaining style.
Although not as strongly guitar orientated as a more heavier band, it is still clearly noticeable that they have some outstanding guitar abilities going on here, with some added rock out sections blended in to their songs and some behind the head playing, from their more than capable front man, oozing stage presence, personality and a proper, well projected singing voice, all pinned down with some stylishly rhythmic, well timed chops from their youngest member on drums.
I feel Sunset Reset are a tight, well practiced act of talent and an appreciably listenable band that would cross the range between fans of all ages and musical tastes. The only way they can go forward now I would say, is to hone in on what they have, keep the band fresh with added new material and keep playing and enjoying the on stage Sunset experience.
Well done to Harry, Matt, Matt and Dan and hope they enjoy the fantastic prizes that the Bedford Corn Exchange people had assembled as the prize package.
