With two bands pulling out at short notice, depriving new bands a starting chance to play one of these types of gigs left only 2 bands laid on for tonight and it has to be said, both played a belter.
From Luton the FLEXY BOYS played their usual stadium style performance, thrashing around faster than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, their drummer always seemingly remarkably competent in knocking out a well coordinated rhythm and their bassist bobbing around while playing, also the gratuitously long haired singer guitarist fretting some well played strings, while rasping some grunge Nivarna like vocals as well. Unusual to hear a Sepultura cover, I cant recall them doing that before; In-between the songs quite a trademark now is the Pithonesque banter between the tracks, making you look forward to what is going to be said in an underplayed comedic, northern accented way. Their endings are another thing to look out for usually spectacular in a crumpling to the ground playing guitar while on their knees and squirming around the floor in a dying fly fashion that is if they decide not to summertsault in to the drum kit.
Hard hitting IN REMISSION up next and worthy headliners putting balls, passion and energy in to their music. Iv seen these three times now London, Luton and so its about time Bedford got a share in their ability to deliver a show. I now have a favourite song from the band which is Eden Wont Let Us In with the outstanding singing shining through like a vocal gymnasium of dextrous ability, fast and melodic is the order of the day with most of their songs.
Keyboards are also used on some tracks, adding an Enter Shikari rave like edge to the songs that use them. I think the vocals at times sound from the throat in a tonsil damaging way as opposed from coming from the diaphragm - which would be safer for prolonged use. Not that I could sing better. Vocals and guitar work are a most outstanding feature along with good tunes as well they can hardly go wrong.
