Were over here HIG WIDGET, who seemed to spend a lot of the set especially at the beginning, facing the other way! I thought the vocals really stood out well with this band featuring 2 singers, giving us different vocal styles which blended in to the sound well. The death growls and normal vocals gave an interest holding edge to their songs, sung with passion and incorporating bursts of each instrument crafted well in to the mix. It was good to see that not just playing tune after tune they also injected some social interaction with the crowd, having a good front man adding to a crowd pleasing live reaction. I thought their first song was never going to end and seemed extra long but in no way dragging. Overall an individual interest holding sound, difficult to class so lets just say higwidgety!
Third time I have seen the marvellously named ENRAGED HORIZON first time in Bedford and better they get each time, if they are this good at their young age and new on the scene, it looks evident that with dedicated practice and experience they are on to good things in the future. Nervously twitching at the impromptu quick bassy bursts of a Rage Against cover played during Hig Widgets set as Enraged Horizon intended playing it in full themselves.
Their singer switches between rocking out Hendrix style with a guitar and vocals in some songs and just vocals in others, with confident bursts of crowd pleasing energy. Its good to see each member moving around and rocking out to their tunes and as with the previous band a fan following right up front to watch. It was good to hear a bit of tribal drumming in one of their songs, they are certainly writing some good stuff. You can see where their influences lie, just needing to inject their own individual stamp more, which Im sure will come in time. I would urge this band to stick with it as they sound good, look the part and have so much potential.
Their first ever gig and proud to be the first to put them on, any nerves didnt show during their set get your face down to FACEDOWN, hailing from Bedford with the drummer also in local band Wolflaw, theres no need to mention how amazing their drummer is with spot on rhythmical drum bursts. All musicians in their own right with stage experience from other ventures but for a first performance was surprisingly tight, fluid flowing, well oiled to a point of insolence how do they do it?
Their bassist (remember local pop punksters Doubting Thomas) went for a lumbering walk around while playing, during the set.
Their sound is akin to a classy rock sound seemingly picking up where disbanded outfit Gain left off. You kind of get the sound after a few tracks and risk of sounding a bit samey throughout. One of the most noticeably outstanding features though is the singing, which is positively belted out at full passionate force, fitting in well with the gritty edge of their sound. Not a bad first performance at all!
