THE VATICAN CITY REBELS

DANNYS BAR LEVEL 1 ESQUIRES BEDFORD WEDNESDAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2004.

The Vatican City Rebels Website.

I entered Danny's bar a little after 9pm expecting the band to be on, so I purchased my fermented vegetable product and conversed with the locals. The pub had some people in attendance, but I wouldn't have said it was busy.
I heard the guitar and bass being sound checked and was impressed by the vigour and aggressiveness of the sound. 1 bassist, 1 guitarist, 1 drummer (obviously), where's the singer I thought.
Then the singer appeared, took the mike and growled/sang with remarkable ease. The bassist posed the entire set, but played well. The guitarist was young, but played with experience. The drumming was also great, didn't get a look at him though.
The first 3 songs were long, well rehearsed and the singer commented how they hadn't played a pub for a long time and were used to playing clubs. You could see why, they were extremely tight and sounded like a mix of machine head, rage against the machine type singing, but with lots of growling. Nearly all their songs were headbangable and had a good rhythm. The last two songs weren't as strong as the others, but I think they needed the atmosphere of a club. The band played for roughly 45 mins and the singer sat down a few times and sang at the band, which I found amusing. I was pleasantly surprised by this band and I think they are destined for good things.
They were from Huntingdon and very young looking. So many bands in the local area are very talented for their age and I recommended them to play the Pitz as I think their sound would be very much appreciated there.
