27/03/2005 - Bedford Metal has been informed of a great opportunity for bands looking to play gigs in Milton Keynes, this should be of interest to any style or type of band and will be an especially good opportunity for young bands who would like a chance to play. The gigs have been set up by Imagine Promotions who have negotiated a deal with the MK Irish Centre at Manor Fields Bletchley (Next Door to Bletchley Rugby Club, opposite Pink Punters) to put on gigs every 4-6 weeks; the first gig is on Friday April 22nd.
They are looking for bands to play (any genre), a full P.A., lights etc. will be supplied and the bar is really cheap. Anyone that has been to the gigs put on at Bletchley Rugby Club will know the deal, all the nights have sold out so far & that's why the gigs have been moved to the Irish club, It holds more people (250) and is a really great venue.
So if you think your band is good enough or you are in an established band and want to play, send your details to imaginepromo@hotmail.co.uk
The info and bands decided and will be promoted with posters and flyers around MK.
This has the potential to be a great venue but it needs your support, the entrance fee will be £3 doors 7.30 - 11.00, please give it your full support to make sure this becomes a great place for live music in MK. This will be a venue where bands have got a chance to gig whatever their age and whatever music they wanna play. Only you can make it work so please give it your support.
For anyone that doesn't know, the promoter is Pete and is serious about bringing another quality live music venue to MK, so if you feel you have anything to offer (not just playing in a band) and want to be involved in the nights then contact Pete at imaginepromo@hotmail.co.uk who is open to any suggestions. - Pete (Imagine Promotions) Mobile: 07753831090

I’ve recently included a few links to band web sites that feature in this years Battle Of The Bands, if you want to find and check them out for more info. If your in a live local alternative band with an informative web that your proud of, and think it should get more recognition send them in, although chart topping cover bands from out of the area can get stuffed!
Remember the ‘Band Members’ section is an interactive section where visitors can sell their equipment, or who are looking for band members to join them, or simply musicians looking for an alternative, local, live outfit to join, although chart topping cover bands from out of the area can go **** themselves!
Always on the look out for reviewers, so if you’ve recently bought a bands C.D. and would like to review it, or have been to a gig in the area (Does anyone want to do the Esq. gig this Saturday?). Please feel free to send a review in, (If you want I can give a few tips if your thinking of having a go). Although if your reviewing chart topping cover bands from out of the area.......Well you get the idea!
23/02/2005 - When Doubting Thomas and a derivative of that band – Gain, along with a Bedford Modern band are on the bill, you can guarantee a good turnout. Venomous Snake with light tapping from their flared nostrilled drummer and totally excellent guitar work provided thrills for the Bed Modern audience. Gain started by butchering a ropey opening cover but excelled with the other covers and own material and a singer with excellent bluesy rock vocals. Key warders moved to the front to see Loveburger who they would be voting to win. Their guitarist should play less with his back to the audience and a little less nervous waffle from the band between songs would be more professional. Their drumming, instrumentation and singing were bloody amazing but some of their material (although origional) needs sexing up so it doesn’t all sound the same – Well done for winning though guys! And then we have Esquires resident headliners Doubting Thomas who always put on a great show, they never seem happy with their performances, but even though I’m not strictly in to their style always love their consummate great live shows. Always confident on stage – at least we could hear what they were saying to the audience – unlike the previous band. ‘Should I stay or should I go’ being one of the best covers I’ve heard in ages and I am going to give the Man Of The Match award to their Drummer. A recent replacement who has fitted in well and full of character…. Well anyway enough of my brief overview – go and read the proper review in the ‘Reviews’ section which has been sent in to Bedford Metal by Tom Outen – Cheers Tom; Thanks also to James Wilde for the photo’s used in the review.
This Saturday sees a brief break with the battle, for a Metal night featuring a fantastic line-up.

Expect all the latest results of the 2005 Battle Of The Bands here on Bedford Metal.
02/02/2005 - Young lad Jacob, known by his brethren as ‘Penguin Boy’ has sent in his first review. It’s of the Towers Of London gig – who spat at and threw their lit fags in to the crowd while musically, were just a standard act in spandex. Drive Like Casey however, were able to put on a great show without all the spandex trappings- just straightforward musically solid not needing any flash pretence. Also – one of the best Prospect gigs, on top form, although if one of the guitarist cut his seemingly angry cusses, they may not have overrun. But that’s enough of what I thought – go to the ‘Reviews’ section…. Over to you Penguin Boy!
01/02/2005 - A new month and a new ‘Web Of The Month’ is featured in that section. Its one of the best on the ‘Links’ page, stylishly laid out and informative (cool band as well!).
My thanks to the sites Webmaster, Lyall who gives an interesting incite in to web design, as well as being the singer/guitarist of the band.
Coming up:- A visitor to last weeks Towers Of London gig has sent in a review of the night.
As frequent visitor to the Thirst Club venue myself I would like to take this opportunity to associate myself with the sympathies made to Keith who died suddenly last week, Ill miss having a laugh and chat with him where he worked behind Danny’s Bar downstairs and helped out on lights among with his other care taking duties.

Local legend Jason Kinns asked if he could interview ‘The Smoking Hearts’ exclusively for Bedford Metal, Sounds good I thought, but betted him that it wouldn’t happen, – two of them would, one of them might and two others just wouldn’t be arsed, but have a go if you can… Here then is an interview with one of The Smoking Hearts a.k.a. Dr Sparklehorse who is usually on drums and stuff.

Demo Reviews’ section they sound like a formidable Metal act on a par with Bedford’s Revelation. – And that’s high praise indeed – See the latest update review.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS. – just a reminder what Ian at Esquires/ Planet clothing said, as I believe there are still some places for band entries and these are usually a good way of getting your band started and noticed.
“Just to let you know that we are now putting into place the next band competition. Anyone wanting to enter needs to give me a bell on 01234 214015 or my email is mastapecca@hotmail.com
Sooner the better since we need to get line ups into place. The more the merrier so tell any mates you have that are in bands.” (and please inform Bedford Metal of your gig so it can go up oon the Gigs list).

21/12/2004 - Looks like xmas eve will be a good day for local alternative music. On 24th December the long awated 'Bedford Metal Sound Page' will be open, so you can hear the sounds of the bands on the scene. Also of course theres Sick On The Bus, Delicate Children, Alfy, and The Smoking Hearts live at the Thirst Club upstairs at Esquires.
19/12/2004 - Going Back:- The venue, Bedford Metal and even the local papers got it wrong but the band themselves have reliably informed me that the true name of their band is “High On Kites”, who played last weeks death fest, so iv gone back and corrected their bands name on the review. Going back further… Iv added a the C.D. cover to the review of the ‘Big Red Button’ C.D. demo that was featured a while ago, especially as I thought it was quite a good design.
Next up:- The ‘Sound Page’ will be up on the site soon so stay tuned for that. If any band wants a track or two featured then send me the housed link addy of the song to download and Ill put it up on the page. Summerfall and Smoking Hearts C.D. demo reviews coming also, and a great new ‘Web Of The Month’ is lined up for January in the new year.

01/12/2004 - Returning to the bands on the local scene sees this months new Web Of The Month feature.
Check the Gigs section and make a note to come to Esquires 11th Dec To see Newborn Nemesis, who were headliners on the previous Bedford Metal Night when they were previously known as Cerberus, who I saw on their home turf in Milton Keynes recently which was one of the best gigs I had been to this year. Also Bedford Metal's very own Russian Pete's London based band Necrosadistic Goat torture makes its Bedford debut, Iv gone down to see these Death Thrash Metellers quite a few times now and can promise an amazing gig and are already starting to get recognition from music magazines including ‘Terrorizer’. Bedford Metal favourites Alterica who are no strangers to the venue and played a blinding performance at a sell out show a few Fridays ago and have been on the scene when Bedford Metal first started. New talent will be provided by High On Kite. So it seems like a one hell of a mosh pit gig not to be missed.
More info on these bands can be found on their websites on the ‘Links’ section.

The 10 Year Prospect who are seriously fast becoming one of my favourite bands, a complete bunch of really cool people with some great tunes. And the headliners Strate Edge, (who will also be playing at the Lizard this Wednesday)....Well go and read the review.
15/02/2004 - 10 year prospect won this weeks battle of the bands and go through to the next round (and no doubt cant wait to nick the review for their message board) - well done guys!!!

01/02/2004 - A really good review of the 'Jetplane Landing' gig at Esquires (Nov 03) has been sent in from Craig of 'Pandemonium' and is an example of many gig reviews on the www.feed-back.tk website - Cheers Craig.
29/01/2004 - No Battle Of The Bands this week. – Last weeks sell out show featured Pandemonium (check their w/site in ‘Links’) – Youngest, heavy drumming, mumbled vocals, as if he forgot some of the words and some great speedy guitar sections.
SummerFall – Better singing, a huge Bedford Modern crowd, all sounded the same after a while but overall a great sound.
Fell Silent – Good stage presence from woolly hated front-man, a few technical difficulties but gained respect with the confident way they got out of it.
And Revelation – With atmospheric heavy melodic talent and the ones I wanted to win. – But who cares what I think, check out Tom Outen’s review in the gig review section – Cheers Tom.
27/01/2004 - The latest review has been sent in from my ol mate George and is of a few ‘Goth’ bands that played Esquires a short while back, - heh heh, better late than never eh George.

13/01/2004 - Well the first heat of ‘Battle Of The Bands’ exploded on to the Esq. stage in style. Hellabove were totally ‘kick arse’, outstanding drumming, the bass player more worried about dropping his fag and there was a sizable crowd from The Bear to see them.
Smotherlove had a kind of funky 70’s b52’s cartoon music sound, with a lot of lyrics sung well, - last time one of the bands had a female lead singer they got more stick than a wicker man! but these went down well.
Delicate Children had the best mosh pit they have ever had, the singer is never over confident or egocentric – just the right balance, while the drummer seemed bored and looked like he was trying to complete a crossword. Well done for winning guys!
Sphere were laughing at the newspapers calling them led zeppelin fans, then started their gig with a zep cover. Their own stuff has a great sound with great guitar and vocals. But for an even better review check:- gig reviews. My thanks to Fredd Burnet for that.

06/09/2002 - The Bedfordmetal website is going to be run and updated by Keith Pickering from now on (you can contact Keith at metalgengis@hotmail.com).Unfortunately I do not have the time to run it anymore, and I am rarely on the Bedford scene, which is important for running a site like this. Cheers to everyone for all their help and support while I was running this site. I might still occasionally contribute reviews, and do some work on the site, but Keith is now the main reviewer and webmaster. Keep Metal! - Russian Pete

03/06/2002 - At last, the long awaited revamp for the Bedford Metal site is now complete! Check out our credits section to find out about our contributors, who bring you the great reviews you see on this site. The News section shall hopefully play a more important role now, documenting changes in band lineups, and info about new releases by local bands. Welcome to the new, improved, Bedford Metal!
25/05/2002 - Some good news for those who are younger Esquires clubgoers - LAST TRAIN HOME / AGE RESTRICTIONS - MUSIC VENUE AND NIGHTCLUB Finally in line with other live music venues across the country the Thirst Club has moved its doors forward to 8p.m.(many towns gigs open 7.30p.m.or earlier) This should mean shows are now over between 10.30-11p.m. and all those on the train line to Luton- Flitwick, Harlington, Leagrave etc. have no reason to complain or leave mid headline band set. Also in line with nearly all UK music venues and at the request of most bands many shows will now adopt a 14+ policy, certain less youth orientated shows will be listed as 16+ (trust us on this one) . While respecting Esquires is an 18+ alternative nightclub at weekends the intentions are to have such 14+ orientated shows over by 10.30p.m. ahead of the nightclub opening. This is under a trial period and anyone found under age drinking will have to be eliminated - don't let us down, the club could easily loose its licence. For any further details concerns speak to Ian in Planet 2. Stage Diving / Moshing- You will be glad to know that we have liased with the security over the issues many of you have raised, again in line with all venues / safety issues stage diving will not be allowed (to be fair we did have two hospital cases last year). However it is agreed that moshing is considered acceptable - no picking on the new kids of course or attempting to kill one another. over and out - Thirst.
16/05/2002 - We're back in action! Three reviews have been added to the reviews section - a review of the Number One Son gig by new reviewer Chris Murphy, a huge review of the Samuel Whitbread Rockfest by Keith Pickering, and a review of last month's Caffeine gig. Watch out for some new interviews soon, and a professional new look for the site!
27/04/2002 - Due to my forthcoming university exams I will be unable to update the site. I will begin answering letters and updating the site again after the 15th of May. - Russian Pete
